Located on a southwest peninsula in Bay Springs Lake (about 30 minutes east-southeast (ESE) of Booneville, MS), Bay Springs Scout Base is an excellent low-impact camping area with multiple unit tent-camping areas, a centrally located well-water (untreated), a 16’x32’ covered program shelter and a latrine.  There is no power at the camp.
Access to the property is limited by permit, and a gate key is checked out through the Yocona Area Council Service Center in Tupelo, MS.  Vehicle access is via a good gravel road and most vehicles will have no problem navigating the established road that leads 1.5 miles to the “HQ” campsite.
At the “HQ” campsite there is an established campsite, a latrine and a hand-pump well.  The road splits at into two dead-end roads, each 0.2 miles in length, each with unit campsites along the way and access to the lake.  Each branch road ends near the lake, but neither has a ramp that will allow trailer launching (but you can hand-launch paddle craft by carrying them to the beach).  If you are good at backing trailers the road is accessible but be aware there is no trailer turn-around on either branch road.
From the “HQ” campsite the left (north) branch offers campsites with lake views; the right (east) branch offers campsites with forest views and a large 16’x32’ program shelter.  Overnight campers need to bring tents or hammocks.  The property is heavily forested and ground cover is a thick covering of pine needles (pine straw).  Use only established fire rings for campfires and burn only downed wood that can be completely burned (do not cut down trees or leave partially-burned logs).  All trash must be packed out, plus any trash you find on the property (includes debris washed up from the lake).
